Project 1A: Infographic poster
Our first project was to make an infographic poster of a recipe. I chose to do it one for crepes as they are fairly easy to make but also would be fun to illustrate and narrate the process.
Week 2
I found this recipe (https://www.barbarabakes.com/strawberry-crepes) and made a few sketches for the same. Before that, I looked up a few references I could use for the layout and illustration style.
I felt like this layout would work out for my recipe as it had the same number of steps and not too many ingredients. For the colour scheme, I decided to go with something brighter for a change and picked these colours.
Week 3
I started off by tracing the layout I had sketched and blocking in all the colours. I ended up playing around with a few different shades of blue before finalising on this one. Like the header in my reference, I wanted to make the title look isometric and in a cut out style.
Before proceeding with the other illustrations, I finished my main one of the crepe and did it in a more realistic, detailed style.
Then I worked on my other illustrations for the ingredients and the other objects in the process. I also added a faint pattern to the border of the poster so it would have a more vintage appeal; the same as my colour scheme.
Next, I began adding the text and labels for each step of the process. Once I finished that, I added the respective illustrations to it too.
I realised that the header looked rather bland with the font that I had chosen, so I decided to try a more handwritten brush script style one instead. I applied the same effects to it and also added a noise filter to achieve the effect.
The last step section had too much white space so I added some text in the same font as before to balance it out. At the top, I realised I had also forgotten to include the yield and the cooking time which was included in the original recipe. And to achieve the same effect as my reference, I added a noise effect to the poster.

Project 1B: Infographic video
Week 5
The next part of the project was to create a 30 - 45 second long infographic video for the same recipe. Since I had most assets from the poster, I didn't have to draw too many new objects for the video. I made a few thumbnails for the video before I started animating it in after effects.

Week 6
I started animating my video in After Effects and the transitions and sound effects for each part of part of the video. I wanted the "crepe" in the beginning to look like it was being written so I used the script preset in Ae and created a path for it. This process turned out to be much more complicated than I had though. Most other transitions, however were created using Mister Horse.
Then I added sound effects for the ingredients dropping into the bowl in step 1 and of the timer, and the sound of the crepe cooking in step 2, which where all sourced from zapsplat and bensound. I also added some faint background music to the whole video. In between each step, I added the page turn effect (and also the sound effect for the same).
I also added a slight wiggle to each of the ingredients in step 1 to make it look more interesting than just a static image.
